Baku, Azerbaijan's capital and the largest city on the Caspian Sea, holds three distinct layers within a 3-kilometre walk: the UNESCO-listed Old City (Icherisheher) inside 12th-century walls, the late-19th-century oil-boom mansions of the Boulevard and Fountains Square, and the modern Flame Towers and Heydar Aliyev Centre by Zaha Hadid.
